Up Close on Shia Labeouf

Shia Labeouf is one of the stars of the upcoming movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull . Here is a look at his film work so far.

Shia Labeouf first started in the entertainment industry as a self promoted comedian at the age of 10. Labeouf had an active imagination growing up and described himself as having created story lines and fictitious tales as a means of escape. He soon found an agent and started his acting career on television in Even Stevens, a Disney Channel show, playing the lead character.

Then came a string of made for Disney Channel movies including, Tru Confessions and The Even Stevens Movie. His work in Even Stevens would eventually garner him a Daytime EmmyAward for Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series in 2003. That year, he was accepted into Yale University, but had decided to focus on acting.

Shia's Big Break

He was introduced to a wider audience in the 2004 movie The Greatest Game Ever Played, where he played a more grown up character. In the film, he portrayed the legendary Francis Ouimet, a caddy turned golfer who eventually went on to win the 1913 U.S. Open Championship. Shia showcased himself as an actor who accepts that taking risks, such going naked, is part of the artistic process, as was when he went nude for the 2006 movie, Bobby .

Shia Awarded By Bafta

In 2007, he won the Star of Tomorrow honour from the ShoWest convention (of the National Association of Theater Owners) . Shia also played leads in the thriller disturbia and in the action adventure The Transformers . Both movies were box office hits and found critics pleased. In February 2008, he was awarded the prestigious BAFTA OrangeRising Star Award, which was both nominated and selected by British film goers.

Audiences can find him in the upcoming film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull , the fourth installment in the Indiana Jones series which also features the original lead, still played by Harrison Ford. Shia will star as Mutt, the slightly arrogant sidekick to Indiana Jones. The film is set to be released on May 22, 2008 by Paramount Pictures.

Shia Labeouf and his girlfriend broke up in 2006/2007 after a three year long relationship, and he currently spends time with his two bulldogs at his home in Burbank, California.

What's next for Shia

His next film work includes Eagle Eye, a thriller from director D. J. Caruso, and he has also agreed to team up with executive producer Steven Spielberg to star in the next two Transformers sequels.
