In his memoir Time of My Life, Patrick Swayze wrote of his life and Hollywood experiences. Swayze fans should expect the book to discuss his pancreatic cancer battle but also the struggles and events leading up to his eventual fame.
With a career that crossed stage, film and television, Patrick Swayze is widely known for the romantic leading roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost . He went on to additional film roles but never quite recaptured the same level of success in later works.
Patrick Swayze announced he had stage IV pancreatic cancer in early 2008 but continued acting by filming the television show The Beast while continuing his cancer treatments. Earlier this month, Patrick Swayze lost his battle with cancer at the age of 57.
Patrick Swayze Biography
Born in Houston, Texas, Patrick grew up around dance as his mother owned a dance school. He attended his mother's classes and would meet his future wife at his mother's dance school where she was also a student. Patrick and Lisa Niemi, a dancer and actress, married in 1975.
Patrick's career involved roles on stage, including a the role of Danny Zuko in the original Broadway production of Grease. In 1985, Swayze starred in the renowned television miniseries North and South.
His career would eventually move into film where he would receive acclaim for his role as Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing. For this role, Swayze earned a Golden Globe nomination. He followed this role as Sam Wheat in Ghost, which earned yet another Golden Globe nomination.
Most recently, Patrick Swayze starred in the television show The Beast which he filmed while undergoing cancer treatments.
Lisa Niemi and Patrick Swayze Author Book Time of My Life Releasing September 29
In a memoir written while undergoing pancreatic cancer treatment, Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi co-authored Time of My Life which will release late September, 2009. The book not only discusses his cancer battle but sets the background for his rise to fame.
In the book, Swayze tells of his Texas childhood and his struggles to become a successful actor. The book chronicles his life and his 30-year marriage to Lisa Niemi. Simon & Schuster's imprint Atria publishes the book and states, "The book will open the door for families, individuals, and husbands and wives to grow, bond and discover entirely new levels of love and sharing, proving that life shouldn't be lived as a series of endings, but rather as the beginning of greater strength and love."
Patrick Swayze's life spanned 1952-2009, however his career and memorable acting will not fade. Swayze firmly established himself as an actor in unforgettable roles that will live on indefinitely.
