Elle Fanning's older sister, Dakota, has had much recognition in Hollywood as a rising child actress; however, Elle Fanning is now making 'big name' movies too.

Elle Fanning was born Mary Elle Fanning on April 9 1998 in Conyers, Georgia; Elle is the daughter of Joy and Steve Fanning and sister to Dakota Fanning. Like her sister, Dakota, Elle Fanning is of German/Irish descent and began her acting career at a very early age; Elle is rapidly becoming a promising Hollywood starlet, joining the ranks of other successful child actresses like Dakota Fanning, Abigail Breslin and British actress Emma Watson (of Harry Potter fame).

Elle Fanning: A Young Dakota Fanning

Elle Fanning has had acting success in both TV and film, in addition to being a guest on many of the top rated US TV shows; however, although Elle Fanning is now beginning to be recognized as an actress in her own right, she started out often in her sister Dakota's shadow. Her big movie break came in 2001 when she starred in I Am Sam with Sean Penn,as Lucy age 2 years, the younger version of the character portrayed by Dakota Fanning.

Since her appearance in I Am Sam in 2001, Elle Fanning has starred in a number of movies; initially, Elle often played the younger version of Dakota Fanning's character (as in Taken (2002) as Allie, age 3 years) but she soon began to win acting roles in her own right. From 2003 to 2006, Elle Fanning starred in the following Hollywood movies:

  • Daddy Day Care (2003) as Jamie
  • The Door in the Floor (2004) as the young Ruth Cole in a film adaption of a John Irving best selling novel; the movie also starred Kim Basinger.
  • Because of Winn Dixie (2005)
  • I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With (2006).

Elle Fanning in Blockbuster Hollywood Movies

In 2006, Elle Fanning's movie career really began to take off; she started to get acting roles in some of Hollywood's blockbusters and 'big name' movies. Between 2006 and 2008, Elle Fanning played characters in:

  • Babel (2006) with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett
  • Deja Vu (2006) with Denzel Washington and Val Kilmer
  • The Nines (2007)

  • Day 73 With Sarah (2007)
  • Reservation Road (2007) with Jennifer Connelly and Joaquin Phoenix
  • Phoebe in Wonderland (2008) with Felicity Huffman of the TV series Desperate Housewives
  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) starring as Daisy, age 7; this movie also again starred Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.
The Hollywood Future of Elle Fanning

In late 2009, the latest Elle Fanning movies, Vivaldi and Nutcracker: The Untold Story are scheduled for release; Elle Fanning is also currently filming Somewhere, scheduled for screenings in 2010. The first ten years of Elle Fanning's life have included many TV shows and Hollywood movies; as one of Hollywood's promising starlets, Elle Fanning may produce many more Hollywood movies, as a teenager and young adult, which equal her sister Dakota Fanning.
