Carla Gugino Is Silk Spectre in Watchmen MovieSpy Kids Launched Sally Jupiter Actress in New Watchmen Film
Carla Gugino has stayed busy in the past year. With 2008's Righteous Kill and now the Watchmen movie, this actress is poised to break out. Here are 5 of her best roles.
Spy Kids (2001)It's safe to say that Robert Rodriguez's family-friendly action franchise Spy Kids put Gugino on the map. The original was made on a modest $35 million budget, and grossed over $200 million. In it, Gugino joined Antonio Banderas as a couple of spies captured by the baddies that must rely on their children for survival. The series struck a chord, and Gugino returned for two sequels. Sin City (2005)In Sin City Gugino plays the beastly Marv's (Mickey Rourke) parole officer. Her small but memorable role set fanboys hearts a-thumping as the kindly Lucille watched over her big lug of a "client". The film scored big with a nearly $160 million worldwide take. The Lookout (2007)In 2007's The Lookout, Gugino plays Janet, the main character's psychiatrist, and shares only one scene with star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but their interaction is so memorable that it sustains her presence for the rest of the film. This was a smart, cerebral role for Gugino in a critically praised crime-drama, which has since led her to meatier roles. Night at the Museum (2006)Gugino inserted herself into another successful film with this family holiday movie starring Ben Stiller. She plays a razor-sharp museum tour guide, whom Stiller develops an affinity for. This role placed her name and face in a more recognizable position for bigger roles to come, probably more than any film she had previously undertaken. American Gangster (2007)Gugino took a more domestic role in 2007's American Gangster as Russell Crowe's estranged wife, with whom he finds himself in the middle of a custody battle. Gugino's scenes with Crowe had a solid chemistry that showed she was capable of banging heads with today's biggest stars. The film received 2 Academy Award nominations as well as 27 additional nominations and 5 wins, meeting with critical and marginal box office success. About Carla GuginoThis Italian-American actress is a beauty with brains and determination. Born in Sarasota, Florida, she was her high school's valedictorian, and caught the attention of a modeling agency at just 15 years of age. At 5'4", she was considered too short for the runway and turned to acting instead. Born August 29, 1971, she makes 37 years of age feel like the new 27, and she's getting plenty of buzz from fanboys excited about her turn as Sally Jupiter (a.k.a. Silk Spectre) in the Watchmen movie that debuts March 6, 2009. NotesFor Carla Gugino pics, or more information on her life and career, visit IMDB.
