Angelina Jolie Gives Birth to Twins
Jolie-Pitt Clan Join the Celebrity Twin Phenomenon
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have become parents for the fifth and sixth time with the birth of their eagerly anticipated twins. Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline join siblings Maddox, Zahara, Pax, and Shiloh as the newest members of the Jolie-Pitt clan.
Baby News Slips Out
Pitt and Jolie confirmed to the press on February 23rd , via a tight, bump-hugging black dress, they were expecting another biological child. It wasn’t until the Cannes Film Festival in May the fans learned of the biggest surprise; Jolie was carrying twins. Jolie’s co-star Jack Black let the news slip while promoting their film, Kung Fu Panda.
Jolie told Entertainment Weekly, "we weren't expecting twins. So it did shock us and we just jumped to six (children) quickly, but we like a challenge."
Jolie Admitted to Hospital
While her due date drew nearer, Jolie was admitted to Foundation Lenvin Hospital in Nice, France to finish out her pregnancy on bed rest. Although many celebrity gossip sites claimed to have exclusive pictures of Jolie and Pitt in their posh maternity suite, a hospital spokesman released a statement claiming the pictures were fake.
"It's impossible to see into Mr. Brad Pitt and Mrs. Angelina Jolie's room," the spokesman said in the statement. A special kind of insulation that cameras can't see through was reportedly put over the windows. He goes on to say any pictures published by celebrity gossip sites are either faked or are pictures of other hospital patients.
And Babies Make Eight
News broke on Saturday, July 12 that Jolie had given birth to her twins, a boy and a girl. According to Jolie's doctor, Dr. Michel Sussmann, Pitt was by her side the whole time, becoming very emotional during the cesarean section. Sussman stated Pitt was like his assistant during the procedure and even cut the umbilical cords. He also reported that mother, son and daughter are doing very well and Pitt is by their sides. Knox Leon weighed in at 5.03 lbs and Vivienne Marcheline weighed in right at 5 lbs.
Celebrity Twin Trend
The Jolie-Pitt clan is the newest member of the twin sensation that seems to be sweeping through Hollywood. Baby bumps are very trendy in Hollywood right now with everyone pregnant from Minnie Driver and newlywed Ashlee Simpson to Mark Wahlberg’s fiancee and "X-Files" alum Gillian Anderson. However, the trend has been “bumped” up a notch with the arrival of so many twins.
